We are overjoyed to share that Bruno has safely made it to the United States and, after an extraordinary journey, is finally home with his mom in Kansas.
Just one year ago, Bruno was a badly mutilated puppy stranded in Azerbaijan, with no clear path to safety. His future changed because a community of compassionate people believed that his life mattered and came together to help him.
Bruno's journey began in Baku and took him across the world to New York. The generosity of GWARP's donors helped cover his flights and the significant cost of processing him through The ARK animal reception facility at JFK Airport.
After arriving in New York, Bruno was welcomed by past GWARP adopters Azadeh and Jake, who picked him up from The ARK and gave him a safe place to rest overnight. Everything was unfamiliar: the airport, the city, the people and the endless series of hellos and goodbyes. Through it all, Bruno remained gentle, trusting and remarkably brave.
The next stage of his journey took him to Philadelphia with GWARP volunteer Alison. Bruno explored the city, stopped to smell the flowers and continued learning that the unfamiliar humans surrounding him were there to help.
In Philadelphia, Alison placed Bruno into the care of a professional pet transporter for the final stretch of his journey. Saying goodbye was difficult after spending time with such a sweet and loving boy, but Bruno was finally headed toward the person who had been waiting for him all along.
From Baku to New York, from New York to Philadelphia, and finally from Philadelphia to Kansas, Bruno's journey required flights, ground transportation, volunteers, adopters, donors and countless acts of kindness.
It truly took a village to bring Bruno home.
Today, the mutilated puppy once left stranded in Azerbaijan is safe in Kansas with his mom, beginning the life he always deserved.
Bruno thanks every person who helped him along the way, and GWARP is deeply grateful to the donors, volunteers, adopters and supporters who made his journey home possible.
