About Max
MAX IS WAITING! AND WE REALLY, REALLY WANT YOU TO MEET HIM!
Max is the kind of dog who doesn't need to be the center of attention. He doesn't need constant entertainment. He isn't looking for trouble. He isn't bouncing off the walls.
The honest truth, is Max would probably prefer to spend his day sleeping somewhere nearby, getting up for a little walk, asking his favorite person for some pets, and then finding a comfortable spot to curl up again. And if that comfortable spot happens to be your lap?
Even better.
Max is a 6 year old, 71 lb Akita/Husky mix with one unforgettable blue eye and a gentle soul. He's currently in foster care and, after four months of settling in, his amazing foster describes him as very chill, well-mannered, obedient, and incredibly low-energy.
He's also completely house trained and hasn't had a single accident in his foster home.
Max is the kind of dog who quietly does his own thing. He sleeps around the house, enjoys relaxing near his people, and will come over when he's ready to ask for some affection. He's recently discovered that being a lap dog is actually pretty wonderful, and his foster has happily obliged.
He is affectionate, but he isn't demanding. He's content to be near you without needing to be on top of you every second. He isn't seeking out conflict or trying to hurt anyone. He's simply a calm, easygoing guy who wants to feel safe and loved.
And once he knows you? That's when you get to see the real Max.
Max was dumped at a New York kill shelter and quickly found himself on the euthanasia list. At the shelter, he was terrified. He wouldn't go for walks and was deeply unsure of the people around him. If someone offered him a treat, he would gently take it, drop it, and wait until they walked away before eating it.
All he needed was someone to give him the time and space to figure out that he was finally safe. His foster did exactly that, and we are so incredibly grateful.
Today, Max takes treats from his foster mom's hand, enjoys being around people, follows his routines, responds beautifully to commands, and has become a happy, relaxed dog who knows he is safe.
He's obedient and intelligent, knows many commands, and is eager to learn. He enjoys walks, exploring, car rides, and carrying around his favorite toys! Especially his duck, avocado, and little mouse.
His dark facial hair can make him difficult to read at first, but his foster mom has spent four months getting to know the dog underneath that expression. And underneath it is a goofy, affectionate, incredibly sweet dog who would really like nothing more than to curl up in your lap.
Max needs someone who understands that the best relationships aren't always instant. Someone who can give him a little time, let him approach things at his own pace, and allow trust to grow naturally. In return, Max will give you something incredibly special: a loyal, devoted companion who is perfectly happy just being by your side.
Max is ready for his person. Maybe it's you?
