From Baku To Toronto!
Jun 8, 2024
Sean, the disabled German Shepherd puppy, and his shelter friend Gerald became Canadians! After a month of hard work and planning, the lucky duo finally touched down in Toronto for their happily ever after. Gerald is an older guy who spent most of his life on the streets, and now he's just happy to finally have a warm home and a family to call his own. Sean is a victim of cruel, greedy breeding. Because of a poor diet, he developed rickets, and his bones became badly deformed, preventing him from moving freely. Now he has a chance at a better life. His family has already scheduled him to see specialists and do everything to get Sean better. We keep our fingers crossed for Sean and hope for the best.
Five Huskies Made It Out Of The Shelter!
May 28, 2024
On May 24th, they landed in New York City after a very long, exhausting journey, ready for their happily ever after! This freedom flight took a long time to plan, and we are so happy to see these deserving, gorgeous dogs finally enjoying their homes. We are immensely grateful to our donors, volunteers, and fosters for their tremendous support in this very important mission. June is going to be so busy - please follow our social media to see who we are flying next.
GWARP Welcomes Two Bear Cubs!
May 10, 2024
Apart from caring for hundreds of dogs and cats, GWARP is also a safe haven for 15 brown bears, victims of cruel ventures and poachers. Recently, we were called upon again—to save two bear cubs - the sweetest, cutest baby boys who we named Henry & Harry. Their mother was killed by poachers, leaving them orphans. We quickly sprang into action and transported the bears to our smaller dog sanctuary. They have their own separate room where staff is bottle-feeding them and keeping them occupied with toys. It didn’t take long though for them to start getting cozy with the dogs. The cubs are loving life right now - enjoying makeshift pools crafted from buckets, receiving visits from guests, and forging friendships with many of the dogs. They've particularly bonded with Milton, who has assumed the role of a patriarch, tirelessly watching over them, following their every move, and ensuring their safety. In return, the cubs shower him with affection, giving him countless hugs and treating him like the teddy bear he resembles.

Before & After: Milton’s Incredible Transformation!
Apr 10, 2024
Five months ago, we rescued Milton from the streets in a horrible condition, starved, dehydrated, with little hair left and wounds all over his body. Milton was not born a stray. Rather, he was purchased from a husky breeder with the implied promise of a decent life. But the family had no intention of ever caring for him and kept him tied up and neglected in their yard and then put him out on the street like unwanted furniture. It was a very long, complicated journey, but together we made the impossible POSSIBLE and healed Milton! Today, Milton is nothing like his sad past. He’s a fluffy, silky bundle of joy. Look how happy and radiant he is at the shelter and just imagine what he will look like in a real home! This is a one-in-a-million dog, resilient, affectionate, and easy-going. He’s so ready, and we have no doubt he’ll make his future family the happiest people in the world! Don’t delay and apply at gwarp.org or email contact@gwarp.org to adopt this special, gorgeous boy. THANK YOU to everyone who donated to Milton’s hospitalization and treatment. Your kindness has made this beautiful transformation possible!
Mission 2 Completed with Four Paws
Apr 4, 2024
We are happy to report that nine bears were treated during FOUR Paws' second visit to Azerbaijan last month. Dunbar, our blind bear with one of the most heartbreaking stories, underwent surgery again. During the first mission in November, an examination revealed that Dunbar had been suffering from a painful toothache for many years. The infection from his bad tooth spread to his ear and eyes, causing his ear to flop and rendering both eyes blind. Doctors extracted the bad teeth, neutered, and vaccinated him. In this second mission, Dunbar was put under anesthesia again to amputate his infected eye. Masha and her cubs were also examined. They were spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and Masha had her bad teeth extracted. The five bears living in a restaurant's yard on hotel property required multiple teeth extractions. One bear turned out to be blind, and a bear we named Afina had a large mammary (breast) tumor removed during the mission. It's painful to think how much longer they would have suffered if FOUR Paws had never come to Azerbaijan. Please stay tuned for major updates on the bears. Some have been selected to be relocated to sanctuaries abroad.
A Special Family for Special Bridget!
Mar 30, 2024
Bridget suffered lots as a stray in Azerbaijan. She was abused and left paralyzed. Both back legs caught infections from all the dragging and had to be amputated. In October 2023, we flew bipod Bridget to the US for a brand new life. A family experienced with special-needs animals welcomed Bridget home for fostering. Many people inquired about Bridget, but no one adopted her. She was looked at as too much of a challenge - her bladder must be expressed, she wears diapers, and has to use a wheelchair for walks. Last month, Bridget’s (and ours) wish came true. She never has to leave her foster family as they are now her real family. Bridget is officially adopted!!!! Bridget got exactly what she always wanted - a large family that ADORES her and gives her so much attention. Never once did Bridget’s family complain about all the care she needs. It took special people to accept special Bridget as she is.
Sean is Adoptable!
Jan 28, 2024
It’s now been a month since we rescued little Sean, and he has come such a long way! The chances of Sean surviving when we first saw him were slim. But Sean showed everyone. With an intensive treatment plan including high quality nutritious meals, Sean got stronger. He got so strong that his prolapsed organ naturally went back in place without surgery, which is an incredible result. The many bed sores on his back are almost all healed. Daily IV fluids and medications are still being administered to get Sean to his best state. Due to reckless breeding and not getting enough nutrients by his previous "family," Sean’s small bones went soft and deformed, so he can’t use his back legs. Sean will likely always be special needs, and that’s ok. All he needs is a loving family and a wheelchair to go on walks. To adopt Sean, please submit an application here: https://gwarp.org/adopt/dog/. Don’t let him sit in the shelter for longer than he has to.
Making a Difference with Brigitte Bardot in Azerbaijan!
Jan 16, 2024
In October 2023, we collaborated with the Brigitte Bardot Foundation on a spay and neuter campaign for stray animals in Azerbaijan. A total of 589 stray cats and 539 stray dogs were sterilized during their ten day visit, marking a significant step towards humanely controlling the stray animal population in the country. We are optimistic about the impact of such projects and hopeful for more initiatives like this in the future.
Fifteen Cats Flew to the US!
Jan 5, 2024
We are happy to share that 15 cats touched down in Chicago last month from Azerbaijan! THANK YOU to everyone who texted, called, and emailed to foster. With the community’s support, all 15 cats boarded the plane. No one was left behind. Some have already been adopted, while some are still available. All survivors of abuse, they are now settled into their adoptive and foster homes. Please reach out to be matched with your new BFF. Each cat is microchipped, neutered/spayed, and fully vaccinated. Out-of-state adoption is available. Please email us at contact@gwarp.org or fill out a cat adoption application on gwarp.org.
